Ohio to spend $8.5 million on more housing for disabled adults, Cleveland.com
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Not all adults with disabilities can live on their own. Nor can they afford private housing.
That’s why Ohio’s Department of Department of Disabilities is building up its supply of public housing across the state.
State lawmakers approved $8.5 million for these kinds of local projects earlier this month at its Controlling Board meeting--including $405,000 for two houses in Cuyahoga County.
“These are our neighbors, our friends, and our loved ones,” Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney, a Westlake Democrat, said. “They deserve not only our respect but also the resources necessary to live independently and with dignity.”
Peer living houses are for people who want to live in the community but have medical conditions or functional limitations that require additional support.
