Who We Help

Our organization supports individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities, which encompass a range of conditions resulting from limitations in physical, cognitive, language, or behavioral areas. These conditions typically emerge during a person’s developmental stage, can affect daily functioning, and often persist throughout their lifetime.

Today, we are spotlighting Tom, Support Administrator!

Tom started at Cuyahoga DD over 30 years ago in Early Intervention. He now works in Support Administration, directly supporting individuals through waiver services.

He shares, "I like working at Cuyahoga DD because I have the privilege of being on teams with very passionate coworkers who are making a positive impact on the lives of people with developmental disabilities, helping them live, learn, work, and play in the community."

Over the years, Tom has learned to give people grace, to breathe slowly, assume best intentions, and remember that things are usually not as bad as they initially appear.

"I also learned that you don't need to know all the answers and that your coworkers can help you brainstorm and resolve most problems," he said.

In his free time, Tom is a Scout Leader volunteer who enjoys camping, hiking, and teaching the Disabilities Awareness merit badge to local scouts.

Tom also enjoys scuba diving on shipwrecks in the Great Lakes. He also takes dive trips to the Galapagos Islands, Fiji, Costa Rica, Roatan, and other locations around the world.
