Who We Help

Our organization supports individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities, which encompass a range of conditions resulting from limitations in physical, cognitive, language, or behavioral areas. These conditions typically emerge during a person’s developmental stage, can affect daily functioning, and often persist throughout their lifetime.

She shares that the Board's mission to support and empower individuals with developmental disabilities to live, learn, work, and play in the community is incredibly significant. "It is a task that exceeds what any of us can accomplish alone. I take great pleasure in helping people, regardless of whether they have disabilities, and believe that if I can create even a minor enhancement to improve someone’s life, then it has been a successful day," Laura said. To Laura, her family - her husband, children, and grandchildren - are at the center of her world. To spend more quality time with her daughter, she even took an in-person college course with her. She also has a passion for traveling. At the Ohio Association of County Boards (OACB) 2026 Spring Conference, Vijay Ravindran, the Founder/CEO of Floreo, presented alongside Lori Mago, Cuyahoga DD Director of Assistive Technology and Children's Services, and Samantha Polczynski, BCIS Supervisor. Their presentation focused on "Digital Boundaries: Using Virtual Reality for Safe Online Interactions." They shared about their collaboration on a virtual reality module that helps people with developmental disabilities recognize grooming behaviors and stay safe online. Through interactive activities, users learn decision-making and personal safety skills applicable in both digital and real-life scenarios. The session included a live demonstration of the Digital Boundaries module and shared insights on its implementation and the benefits of VR for skill-building.

The Cleveland State University College of Health, Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance, in partnership with Jacob's Ladder Fitness, is recruiting for a study. They are observing the impact of regular exercise on biomarkers of health and Alzheimer's Disease in adults aged 18 and older with Down syndrome. If you're interested in participating, contact e.kullman@csuohio.edu or w.matcham@csuohio.edu. Volunteers will visit the lab for about 2 hours.
