The Good Life Ambassadors (GLA) are all about spreading inclusion and disability advocacy.
We are pleased to present Jasmine Toney, who is underway as a new GLA.

“I am really enjoying my first months as a GLA. Everyone has been very supportive and welcoming,” said Jasmine.

Jasmine is a Cleveland resident who loves books! In 2018, she attended Tri-C before transferring to Kent State University in 2021. Jasmine majored in English because she enjoys reading and writing. Her favorite genre to read is romance.

She shares, “What I loved most about attending KSU is the diversity on campus.” Jasmine liked her time on campus as she wasn’t too far from home and could navigate independently like any other student.

Jasmine wanted to become a GLA because she feels that her unique story as a multiracial woman with disabilities should be shared. “I also remember not having much representation growing up and hoped that sharing my story could help someone in a similar situation feel less alone.”

She plans to return to Kent State in the fall to get a minor in Spanish and then major in the language.

Congratulations Jasmine! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish as a Good Life Ambassador.

April 22 is Assistive Technology Awareness Day.

The Administration for Community Living states:

Assistive Technology (AT) includes any tool or device that helps people do things better or more easily. This can be a smartphone, a smart speaker in your kitchen, a tablet for school, or a device that tracks your heart rate. It also covers systems that monitor health and make homes smarter and safer.

AT can be low-tech, like a simple tool to help you open a jar or a magnifier for reading small text. It can also be high-tech, like a device that helps you communicate using eye movement or software that provides captions during video calls.

Sometimes, the most effective AT is not specialized at all. Often, regular technology can be used in ways that meet a person's needs.

Explore various assistive technologies that can support you in your daily activities on our website at https://ow.ly/vaWm50YO9LY.
