Report Abuse/Neglect (MUI)

For immediate emergencies, call 911.

Once a person is safe, to report a concern of abuse, neglect, or theft happening to a person with developmental disabilities, call the Cuyahoga DD Major Unusual Incident (MUI) Reporting Hotline at any time at 440-333-6841. Reports can be made anonymously. 

If you are a person with developmental disabilities who is experiencing abuse, neglect, or theft. You can learn more about abuse by viewing this easy-read guide.  If you are experiencing abuse you can get help by:

  • Calling 911 if it is an emergency
  • Telling someone you trust, such as a friend, family member, community member, or coworker. Keep telling someone until you get the help you need. 
  • Calling your Support Administrator (SA) or the Cuyahoga DD MUI Reporting Line Hotline at 440-333-6841.


Agency and independent providers must follow the directions outlined here to report an MUI. 

Another option outside of Cuyahoga County is to tell the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD).  Their Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 866-313-6733 or you can report to them online.
