The Cleveland Clinic Children's Medical Staff and the Cuyahoga DD Intensive Support Teams created Medical Social Stories. These stories help children feel more comfortable when they visit clinics, hospitals, or doctors.

Intellectual Disabilities Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic

The Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals runs a clinic for adults aged 18 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This outpatient clinic is staffed by psychiatrists, psychiatric fellows, residents, and advanced practice nurses. Staff have special training and experience in helping adults with developmental disabilities who also have mental health needs or behavioral issues, as well as their families and caregivers.

Comprehensive Care Clinic

The Comprehensive Care Clinic provides coordinated medical care for children and adults with developmental disabilities. 

Care is offered across various specialties throughout the patient's life. 

The clinic has doctors, nurses, and other professionals, including nurse care coordinators. These coordinators work closely with families and medical providers to ensure patients have a clear care plan and remove obstacles to receiving that care.

Department of Dentistry at MetroHealth Medical Center

The department provides routine dental services and may also offer general anesthesia for some patients. General anesthesia is used for people who cannot tolerate dental work.

Dental Sedation Clinic

The Sedation Clinic is a dental clinic designed for people with developmental disabilities. It is a partnership between MetroHealth and Cuyahoga DD. The clinic is located in Ohio City and can serve 30 to 40 patients each week. Cuyahoga DD provides one full-time employee who:

  • Helps people with scheduling appointments
  • Coordinates medical procedures that need to happen while the patient is under anesthesia
  • Helps patients understand billing and Medicaid systems
 

Complex Medical Help Program

The Complex Medical Help (CMH) Program is a healthcare program in Ohio that helps families with children who have special healthcare needs. 

It connects these families to a network of quality providers and helps them in getting payments for the services their child requires. 

CMH also supports the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model, where primary care providers and families work together to improve health and quality of life for children and young people with special health needs and their families.

How to enroll?

To enroll in CMH:

  • A doctor who is approved by CMH must submit a Medical Application Form. If you need help starting enrollment, local health department public health nurses can provide a referral.
